Under the task force activity “Energy
Conservation and Environment Protection Technology -
Application of Plasma Ignition Technology in Power
Generation,”
China Guodian Corporation hosted the first of a series
of site visits during 21 – 26 January, 2006. The goal
of the activity is to help power generators learn the
benefit of the plasma technology.
Three engineers from NTPC Ltd visited Guodian Guodian
Technology & Environment Group Co. Ltd (Guodian Kehuan).
Guodian Kehuan is an advanced technology group Co. Ltd
under China Guodian Corporation. Guodian Kehuan’s key
business is on energy saving, environment protection,
information technology and renewable energy for the
power industry. Guodian Kehuan owns the advanced
technologies plasma ignition and stabilization, flue gas
desulphurization and DCS control, with many successful
reference projects in China.
China Guodian Corporation (China Guodian)
is one of the five largest nationwide power generation
groups approved by the State Council of China in the
power industry restructuring.
China Guodian, a state-owned enterprise, engages in
businesses development, investment, construction,
operation and management on power generation. By 2005,
China Guodian owned a total installed capacity of 35,060
MW including 31,010MW of coal fired capacity with the
rate of 88.45%. China Guodian plans to have an installed
capacity of 80,000MW by 2010.
NTPC Ltd is the largest power generation company in
India. Their total installed generation capacity is
26,400MW, with a coal fired capacity of 21,390MW. NTPC
is undertaking a major capacity addition program to
increase installed capacity as part of the Government of
India’s program to add an estimated 100,000MW during
next five years.
During the visit, Guodian Kehuan described in detail the
plasma ignition technology and FGD technology and their
market applications in China. NTPC engineers visited
Yantai Longyuan headquarters a (subsidiary company of
Guodian Kehuan), workshop, laboratory and one of its
reference plants at Penglai. NTPC visited Guodian
Longyuan headquarters (a subsidiary company of Guodian
Kehuan) and one of its reference plants. During the week
long visits and interactions, the following ideas were
discussed:
1. As pulverized coal fired power plants constitute the
bulk of India’s generation capacity, reduction in oil
consumption by using plasma igniter for ignition and
combustion stabilization may entail significant economic
advantages.
2. Guodian Kehuan has successfully installed plasma
ignition systems in more than 260 pulverized coal
boilers, most of which are 600MW and 300MW units firing
different types of coal.
3. Guodian Kehuan has also supplied FGD plant for a
large number of power plants which have been operating
successfully for many years.
4. NTPC representatives visited plasma ignition
reference plants in Penglai and FGD reference plants in
Beijing. They showed keen interest in the energy saving
and environmental benefits of the two technologies.
5. When necessary, Guodian Kehuan will send technical
executives to India to do a feasibility study and
compile their plan for the application of plasma
ignition and FGD technologies in India.
6. NTPC is planning to install a FGD in their upcoming
plants, the FGD system is likely to be procured along
with the complete boiler island and ESP from a single
EPC contractor. China Guodian showed keen interest in
participating in the bids as an overall EPC contractor
for the complete package. Guodian Longyuan can work as
an FGD subcontractor to the boiler manufacturers.
7. Oil conservation and environment protection are
topics with world wide relevance. Hence, the present
trend is to explore the possibility of advanced
technologies in these areas. NTPC and Guodian Kehuan
showed keen interest in cooperation in these areas. It
is worthwhile to explore the possibility of applying
plasma ignition and FGD technology in Power plants of
India.
8. NTPC engineers and Guodian Kehuan hope to carry
forward their cooperation in the areas of energy
conservation and environmental protection to fulfill the
goals proposed by APP.
