Agenda
The phase-out of inefficient lighting was
widely acclaimed as one of the most important short
term initiatives in combating climate change.
Phase-Out 2008 was an international forum for key
stakeholders to meet and exchange information on the
initiatives taking place around the globe. It was an
opportunity to share experience and lessons learned,
consider key challenges to the phase-out and
implications for industry, and identify how the move
towards efficient lighting can benefit from
cooperation at the regional and international level.
Phase-Out 2008 brought together the lighting
industry, government regulators and international
organisations,
Agenda highlights included:
-
Progress reports from
countries that have gone down the ‘Phase-out
Path’;
-
Analysis of phase-out
implications for the lighting industry;
-
Approaches to harmonised
testing and performance standards;
-
Regulatory and policy tools
for phase-out implementation; and
-
Evaluation of possible
phase-out policy implications including CFL
related health and recycling issues
The Conference also included a
workshop on CFL Quality, a stakeholder consultation
forum in order to shape and design the Global
Environment Facility (GEF) international inefficient
lighting phase-out project, and a visit to one of
the world’s largest CFL production facilities.
